QUALITY ASSURANCE
QUALITY POLICY
Ocean Design, Inc. (ODI) is committed to safely
providing products and
services of the highest integrity and reliability. Through verification
of compliance with the ISO 9001:2008 standard, as well as assuring execution to
ODI goals and objectives, ODI continually reviews and improves the
effectiveness of our Quality Management System. ODI believes that customer
satisfaction and product quality can only be ensured through empowering our
entire stakeholder community from supply chain, to
workforce, to customers, in attaining these goals.
QUALITY ASSURANCE
ODI has been certified by
INTERTEK to the ISO 9001:2008 standard for the design, manufacture, test, and
service of sub-sea or hostile environment electrical and optical
interconnection systems. (Click the ISO logo to view

To achieve and maintain ISO 9001 certification, a company must demonstrate that
a quality management system is deployed throughout the organization, and show
objective evidence that the system is being followed. The Quality System
includes all necessary processes from determination and fulfillment of customer
requirements, through product realization and service. ODI is audited annually
by INTERTEK, as well as conducting regular internal quality audits. ODI also
encourages customer visits to our facilities to conduct on-site quality audits.
QUALITY CONTROL
The Quality System includes the
appraisal and assessment of component and piece part quality using
sophisticated measurement systems. The product is manufactured, tested and
inspected under the control of a high-level factory management system with full
material and operational traceability.
Final product acceptance testing includes
functioning within a hyperbaric environment using computerized data acquisition
of pressure profiles and electrical performance measurements. The data is
maintained both electronically and on hard copy for availability upon
customer's request.
PRODUCT LIFECYCLE MANAGEMENT
ODI manages its products through their entire lifecycle. Quality and
mistake-proofing are built in from proof-of-concept design studies through to
serial manufacture. ODI employs a design process incorporating best practices
adopted from other mission critical industries such as Aerospace,Medical, Telecommunication, and Automotive sectors.
Initial design studies are carried out on
computer-aided modeling packages to ensure fit, form and function. Products
then enter formal stage gate controls within the company's new product development process, (Product And Cycle time Excellence – ‘PACE’), including a formal manufacturing engineering phase prior to the onset of serial
production. Tools deployed within the new product development process include
DFMEAs, PFMEAs, and experimental verification using state-of-the-art hyperbaric
chambers and control instrumentation.
Ongoing product optimization activities are executed using Six Sigma style programs aimed at continuous
improvement in products and processes. Such programs are core
to reliability enhancements through incorporation of field learning
experiences. Obsolescence is proactively managed to ensure ongoing support and
availability of components throughout the extended deployment periods demanded
by our customer base. Within this, availability of historic documentation is
assured by imbedding within the company's ERP system.
CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT
Our Continuous Improvement program focuses on systemically eliminating defects
from every process and product. Our ongoing goals are: 1)Maximize product
design quality and reliability; 2)Reduce cycle times; and 3)Reduce
manufacturing costs. A lean manufacturing program has been in place since late 2008 looking at further opportunities to optimize these goals, conducted with a purposeful plan of Value Stream Mapping and focused Kaizen events every quarter. For 2010, a new comprehensive business management program focused on customer satisfaction and operational effectiveness began implementation.
Quest For Excellence” (QFE)
QFE stands on three foundations:
- competitive excellence;
- an operating system with tools for controlling and improving our processes
- involvement of the entire organization to live the philosophy
In short, QFE is the way that we run our business. We achieve the highest overall satisfaction by relentlessly improving the value that we deliver to our customers and investors.
Part of this program is a series of process controls focused on key internal and external Customer characteristics that are “Critical To Quality” (CTQ). CTQs are executed for every step in the product realization process, from quotation to engineering, manufacturing to shipping.

ENVIRONMENTAL, HEALTH AND SAFETY
ODI operates an OSHA and EPA compliant
Environmental, Health, and Safety Management System on behalf of its employees,
partners and the community. ODI believes that, as a member of the local
community, it has a duty to provide a work place free of unsafe conditions that
do not harm the environment. To this end, the fully documented EHS system
provides personal protection procedures, risk analysis, chemical and material
management and control, as well as formal review by both management and
employees.
