Ocean Design, Inc. (Teledyne ODI) is committed to ongoing
investment in the latest manufacturing technologies for its advanced build,
assembly, and test facilities.
Operations maintains a daily focus to delivering the product on time to
customers with zero defects. Teledyne ODI continues to identify process improvements,
and to reduce cycle times by the implementation of "Lean" technology throughout
the organizational processes.
Continuous improvement is part of Teledyne ODI's operations culture
where employees perform value-added tasks, improve processes and product flow
through the implementation, and execution of "Lean" technology. Teledyne ODI's
cross-training program increases employees' skills, and provides a flexible
workforce to support our customers' varying needs.
The Company utilizes an integrated sales and operations planning process
providing input into its world-class MRP system for effective material and
capacity planning, and rapid integration of leading edge technologies and new
products.
Components are manufactured in a purpose built, air
conditioned machine shop staffed with highly trained and experienced machinists
operating state-of-the-art CNC machines. Machines include 6 axis CNC machining
centers set up for one piece flow consisting of lathes, mills, and turning
machines capable of handling 8" diameter stock. Materials ranging from exotic
metals to thermoplastics are machined to the tight tolerances required by our
customers. Elastomeric parts are transfer-molded from Teledyne ODI's custom compounds in
custom-built mold-tools.
Teledyne ODI maintains the highest quality product by the utilization
of strategically placed inspection stations located throughout the process.
From incoming material to final product inspection, qualified and experienced
associates use conventional and CMM measuring instruments to insure quality is
built into the product.
The electrical assembly production facility includes
electrical wet-mate and submersible connector build stations, J-standard
certified soldering, in-process testing and pressure-balanced, oil-filled
jumper assembly stations.
The fiber-optics production facility is capable of building fiber-optic harness
systems. Production capabilities include optical stem production, polishing,
fusion splicing, optical tuning and inspection, troubleshooting and building
low optical loss, wet-mate connectors.
A U.S. Navy-approved polyurethane molding
facility is located on-site, and is integrated with the jumper assembly
process.
The Company's flexible, high-quality production cell units
effectively meet our customers' most stringent quality requirements through
customized engineering procedures and quality plans tailored to specific
customer specifications. The manufacturing capabilities enable integration of
customer-supplied assemblies, and also provide around-the-clock support for our
customer emergency order requirements and
field support activities.
